How can someone join a group that disallows Self-Join?

If a group has Allow Self Join set to "No", users who do not have the Manage Groups permission cannot join the group by themselves. Assuming that the group is not full, there will be a light blue button labeled "Request To Join". By clicking this button, any user who has the Manage Groups permission will receive a notification that someone wants to join the group.

For users with the Manage Groups permission, follow the below steps to add a user to a group.

Once a user clicks the blue "Request To Join" button, all users who have the Manage Groups permission will receive a notification that the user wants to join a group. By going to Groups -> Join Requests, you can see all of the users requesting to join groups. Each tile on the screen will show

  • Name of the user
  • Name of the group the user is requesting to join
  • Description of the group
  • All of the permissions (if any) that the user will gain by joining the group
  • Approve and Decline buttons

If the user will be gaining any permissions by joining the group, all of the permissions the user will gain will be displayed. By clicking on the name of the permission, you will be able to see the details about that specific permission.
